Everything you need before your first lesson, and the handful of rules that keep it all running. Ten minutes to read, once.
Five things, in order. Tick them off as you go — this page remembers.
It arrives by email for online signature. Nothing else starts until this is signed. If it hasn't reached you within two working days, email Matt.
Your legal name and address for the contract, the subjects and levels you teach, your availability, and a short bio and photo for the website. Fifteen minutes.
Login details go to your personal address. Sign in, set your password, and add the account to whatever you read email on. This becomes your only channel to families.
Two invitations, sent to your Learn Locus address. The calendar is how you get paid. The Drive folder is where every lesson material lives.
With Matt, on Google Meet, from your Learn Locus account. We check your camera, microphone and screen share, and walk through the first family together.
Get these right and nothing else about the admin will ever go wrong.
Every lesson goes in the Learn Locus calendar, titled Student first name – Subject.
No calendar entry means no payment. The calendar is the billing record — it is how we invoice the family and how we work out what we owe you. Cancelled or moved? Update it the same day.
Every lesson gets a short written report to the parent within 48 hours.
Sent from your Learn Locus email. This is the part of the service parents actually see between lessons, and it is the single biggest driver of whether a family stays. Format below.
All contact with families goes through your Learn Locus email and calendar.
Never your personal email, phone, WhatsApp or social accounts — and never any private channel at all with a student under 18. If a parent messages you personally, reply once from your Learn Locus address and continue there.
Everything you use with a Learn Locus student is saved in your Learn Locus Drive folder.
Worksheets, problem sets, notes, past papers. It means a lesson can be covered if you're ill, and a student never loses their history. Your own original materials stay yours.
If anyone asks you about tutoring off the back of a Learn Locus family, tell Matt within five working days.
A sibling, a cousin, a friend from school, a parent at the gate. Send it to us and you get paid a referral bonus — whether or not you end up teaching them. Taking the work privately is a breach of your agreement. The honest route is also the better-paid one.
If something goes wrong — a missed session, a difficult conversation with a parent, a technical failure, anything at all involving a student's safety or welfare — tell Matt or Doug immediately. Nobody has ever been in trouble for flagging something early.
You never invoice anyone and you never chase a family for money.

Hi Elena,
Sofia and I spent today on simultaneous equations. She's now comfortable solving them by substitution and got through the harder set on her own, which is a real step up from a fortnight ago — she was still second-guessing every line then.
The elimination method is where she's less sure, particularly deciding which variable to remove first. We'll come back to it next week and I've left three practice questions in her folder for the weekend.
